Roll7's Games of the Year: 2014!

December 19, 2014

It’s been a really interesting year for games. Since our launch of OlliOlli on the PS Vita all the way back in January, it has been a rollercoaster. We’ve since launched on PS3, PS4 and Steam and have gone from strength to strength. It’s a great time to be indie, and man, we played some excellent games in the studio this year.

Looking forward, our movie-bound trickequel OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood (pic above) will be hitting PlayStation platforms early 2015. We’ve been toiling away for months working hard on the game, and we can’t wait to get it out there.

Not to mention, our balls-to-the-wall insane 2D cover-shooter Not A Hero will be hitting PlayStation and PC around the same time too!

Now, before the New Year arrives, here are Roll7’s Top 5 Games of 2014…

  • Velocity 2X

Without FuturLab, we wouldn’t be making games. The Velocity series keeps getting better and better with every iteration. With absolute jaw-droppingly gorgeous visuals (some of the best explosions around!), and incredibly addictive gameplay, 2X hits the nail on the head and creates one of the freshest, juiciest experiences on PlayStation 4 and Vita.

  • Nidhogg

Nidhogg defined local couch co-op in early 2014 for us. Whenever there was a dull moment, we’d play a game. The competitive back-and-forth between two intense Nidhoggers was AWEsome. By the end of a few games - whether you were playing or watching - you really felt like you put your all into it.

  • Stealth Inc. 2:  A Game of Clones

Stealth Inc 2 was one of the first purchases we made when we got a Wii U for the studio… It’s unrelentingly tough, but SUCH a joy to play. It carries much of the fun and joy of the Stealth Inc but pushes the envelope in interesting and daring ways. A great follow-up!

  • Super Time Force

Crazy. Enduring. Complex. Funny. Pretty. What more is there to say about Capybara Games’ side-scrolling shoot ‘em up? There’s only one game that went over better in the studio this year, and that was…

  • Towerfall: Ascension

If Nidhogg dominated the first half of the year, Towerfall took over in the second half. Since its arrival on PlayStation Plus, T:A became the go-to game for a four player, ass-kicking co-op sessions during lunch. And there’s no sign of it of it slowing down. Great level design, HUNDREDS of ways to play, ridiculously ADDICTING music…. Towerfall: Ascesion is Roll7’s number one game of 2014!
